ANNOUNCING A NEW FREE RESOURCE FOR PATIENTS--AVAILABLE DECEMBER 2020
We refer to cancer as a journey because the diagnosis is just the beginning, the first step of many to follow. At the outset, you will likely have more questions than answers. There will be stops and starts along the way as you learn to navigate the complexities of the medical system and the twists and turns of tests and treatments. At each fork in the road, you will need to decide the best course for you.
Navigating the NET Patient Journey
Navigating the NET Patient Journey was written by a group of support group leaders, patients, and caregivers, who are on the NET patient journey themselves, in the hope that fellow patients and caregivers can benefit from the roads they have traveled. They also invited some experts who are dedicated to the care of people with neuroendocrine cancer to share their perspective.
We hope this new FREE resource will be a useful roadmap for navigating your journey with neuroendocrine cancer and hope that reading the guide will make it clear that you are not alone. We know from experience that it helps to be connected with others who have traversed similar terrain. Consider this a trail map or travel guide so that when you come to a particular place, you will more likely recognize where you are and how you might proceed. At the back, you will find an extensive listing of resources.
How The Patient Navigation Resource Came To Be
When Healing NET convenes its annual Summit of NET experts and patient leaders, the main focus is identifying unmet needs and suggesting ways to meet them. In 2019 one of the questions the faculty explored is how to enhance the patient-physician relationship. Throughout the year, a task force met to develop a guide for patients that focuses on the experience of being a NET patient rather than on explaining the disease because there are several websites and guides that do a good job of that already. The writing group got to work, and now there is a guide for NET patients, caregivers and interested healthcare providers.
This project is made possible with the support of Ipsen Biopharmaceuticals.
